Driving a More Sustainable Future Through ESG
Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy is all about doing the right thing – for the planet, for our communities, and for the people we support.
It’s a framework that places sustainability and community impact at the heart of everything we do, helping create more nurturing environments for the people we support, while strengthening our long-term environmental and social impact.
The ESG strategy focuses on five key areas:
- How we behave
- The energy we use
- How we manage our open spaces
- Our approach to education
- Our contribution to local communities
Each area is supported by clear objectives to guide progress and deliver meaningful, measurable outcome.
The strategy brings together a range of initiatives, including tracking and reducing energy consumption, increasing the use of renewable energy, eliminating peat and single-use plastics, and embedding environmental projects into everyday activities and events.
Much of this work is being driven by colleagues alongside the people we support and is reflected in the practical choices made every day across the organisation.
Adam Henderson, Director of Corporate Support Services, talks below about how ESG plays a vital role in shaping everything we do:
“ESG isn’t separate from what we do – it underpins everything”, Adam says. “When we look after the environment and our communities, we create better places for the people we support – and better workplaces for colleagues.
“Everyone has a part to play, no matter how big or small. Many of our learners and residents are already involved in practical projects such as gardening, composting, growing and selling their own produce, as well as recycling and energy‑saving campaigns. We’re proud of this work and remain committed to building on it.”
Further details about our ESG approach can be found in our ESG brochure.
