An Diadan House

An Diadan House

Situated in the Shirley area of Croydon in South London, An Diadan provides care and support for young adults with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs, including behaviours of concern.

Welcome

An Diadan is a nine-bedroom residential home with an extensive secure garden, which has a large lawn for outdoor activities including an outdoor gym. It can also be used by the people we support for social gatherings. The name ‘An Diadan’ means ‘haven’ or ‘shelter’, which is in-keeping with the Kisimul ethos of safe and tranquil living for the people who use its services.

Our approach

At An Diadan we are driven by wanting to make a difference and setting high standards in everything we provide – from the design and layout of a home to exceptional support teams caring for the people we support.

We strive to create a warm and homely environment as well as teach skills for people that will set them up for life. It is the quality of the care and support that is essential to delivering fulfilled lives for all of the individuals we support. We believe that each person is exceptional and deserves to live the life they choose.

The environment we create gives people the very best start in building a life in adulthood that enables and supports in learning skills that will develop over time.

Independence

The area of Shirley used to be made up of hamlets on the site of the Monk’s Orchard grand estate back in the 1850s. Today, Shirley is part of the borough of Croydon, which has good local amenities available to the individuals we support such as shops, restaurants, leisure clubs, cinemas, GP surgeries and other health professionals, parks and good transport links into central London and out into the surrounding countryside.

Daily living skills are taught and practised within our large kitchen/diner to enable a more confident and independent way of living

Daily life

Our large garden has an additional building which has a laundry and two rooms for educational hobbies; we have an art room where the individuals can enjoy art with our specialist art therapist every week and a sensory room where they are able to fulfil their sensory needs with lots of different activities. Having this dynamic space, we can integrate a therapeutic service which incorporates the entire complex in meeting the challenging needs that the people we support face. We are able to provide opportunities for social integration and a safe place for friends and families to visit and spend time with their loved ones.

Accommodation

The house is spread across two floors and has stunning enclosed gardens surrounding it, creating a strong feeling of safeguarding and safety.

The ground floor is made up of large communal areas that include two spacious reception rooms, where people can enjoy different social activities to help build and create positive relationships. Within our large kitchen/diner we have a healthy pictorial menu board which includes a range of different cultural menus and meals to ensure equality and diversity. Also on the ground floor there is currently two private bedrooms with en suite bathrooms.

The first-floor houses seven bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms, with views out to the mature and well-kept gardens and surrounding countryside.

All bedrooms are individualised and chosen to suit the identity and needs of the person.

Staff & Therapeutic Services

All of our staff are inducted on to two-week training course and have an advanced DBS check before they are inducted into the service. This provides the service with fully trained staff who have all either completed diplomas or are in the process of doing so.

The people we support at An Diadan have access to a variety of different Therapeutic Services. See more information on our Therapeutic Services here.
