Welcome
At Tigh Coilean, which means “house of fulfilment,” we are passionate about our young people living as fulfilled a life as possible and our high staffing levels enable our young people to partake in many everyday activities within the community as well as getting involved in the running of the home.
The home, which is ten minutes away from Lincoln city centre and has direct access to the A46 leading to Newark, is also located on a main bus route with access to Hykeham train station, allowing easy access to public transport if required.
Our approach
At Tigh Coilean we treat every young person as an individual, and any plans of care are tailored to fully reflect their personal needs and wishes. This includes not only the support they are delivered but also the environment and structural base of the property with all bedrooms specifically meeting the needs and desires of the individuals we support.
We appreciate as a home and care provider that all of our individuals have diverse support needs and preferences, though we ensure that all care planning and activities are bespoke towards each individual ensuring all have the same opportunities and development to improve their quality of life.
Independence
We aim to empower and support our young people to reach and develop their potential as individuals and, by encouraging them to be as independent as possible, they gain a sense of ownership and belonging within a homely, safe environment.
Daily life
Lincoln is a historic city known for its medieval cathedral and Lincoln Castle. Hykeham has all of the expected amenities such as a doctor’s surgery, large supermarket, dentist, many restaurants and pubs, sports and leisure centre, whilst many opticians are located in Lincoln centre and a large hospital with A and E facilities is located the other side of Lincoln centre.
Lincoln benefits from a large cinema complex, theatre, library, museums, local social evenings including a disco for people with disabilities.
Accommodation
Tigh Coilean is an eight bedroom house which has a large kitchen area ideal for our young people to get involved in the preparation of their meals with a healthy, balanced diet being promoted throughout. Of the eight en suite bedrooms, six are located upstairs and two downstairs. There are two communal lounges with a conservatory/dining area leading off of one of them.
The house has a large secure garden area with multi-access and decking along with a trampoline and various outdoor games.
Staff & Therapeutic Services
Staffing at Tigh Coilean is of an extremely high standard and everyone works hard to ensure the environment meets the needs of every individual. All staff receive regular training that specialises in our young people’s needs and requirements, and undergo a six-week induction with the help of a mentor to help ensure the standard of care is consistent throughout.
Staff will attend MEAS training as part of their induction to the organisation where they will learn how to support our individuals by understanding their needs and gaining an understanding of how to apply positive behaviour support, which will then improve their quality of life while ensuring the safeguarding of our young people is paramount throughout.
All staff undergo an enhanced DBS check before they start at the service along with a two-stage interview to ensure they are the right individuals to drive our standard forward, with the people we support partaking in the recruitment to ensure they are being supported by individuals they would be compatible with.
The people we support at Tigh Coilean have access to a variety of different Therapeutic Services such as aromatherapy, speech and language therapy, music therapy and occupational therapy. See more information on our Therapeutic Services here.
