Located in the rural village of Hayton, three miles from the amenities of Retford town, Breagha House provides safe, secure and excellent quality residential care for ten young adults with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs, including behaviours of concern.
Breagha House, meaning ‘splendid and beautiful,’ sits within approximately three acres of landscaped grounds, including a sensory garden that is managed and maintained by the individuals with support from trained staff.
Kisimul Group are dedicated to providing a happy and settled home environment for our individuals in a comfortable atmosphere that promotes dignity and respect, independence, privacy, fulfilment and choice. We are thoroughly committed to supporting each person to progress and integrate within the wider community.
Community presence is very important to us here at Breagha House and we utilise all amenities available to us as part of everyday life and the running of the home, which ensures our individuals are an integral part of the local community and all it has to offer. The people we support regularly use the local shop and have helped deliver leaflets to support them being integral in the community. The people that live at Breagha also take part in a work place scheme which allows them to gain work experience and meet new people.
All of the people we supports’ activities are bespoke to their needs and wants and all individually planned. These range from horse-riding, rebound therapy, animal activities, rock climbing and dog walking. Keyworkers plan extra activities on individuals’ requests or likes. We promote and encourage each person to be as independent as possible giving them a sense of ownership and belonging within a homely, safe environment.
All the individuals within the home take part in a weekly meeting to discuss any activities they may like to partake in during the following week. They also meal plan for the following week – individuals are encouraged to plan a healthy and nutritional menu which caters for all dietary requirements. Some of the people we support within the home have gym memberships which not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also encourages community integration.
Breagha House has extensive communal spaces including two large lounge areas and a snug room that provides additional opportunities for quiet contemplation, as well as a substantial kitchen and dining room. It has four downstairs bedrooms and six upstairs, all with en suite facilities.
Staff & Therapeutic Services
The staff team are all trained to the individual’s specific needs and show their passion through their support, and this is evident upon walking in the home. All the staff within the home attend a two-week induction course prior to starting work within the home, where they will cover all the mandatory training required. Kisimul Group provide in-house Therapeutic Services ranging from speech and language therapy to aromatherapy. See more information on our Therapeutic Services here.
