Tigh Fruin

Tigh Fruin

Located in the small village of Hayton, the home has been purposely renovated and provides safe, secure, excellent quality residential care for six young adults with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs, including behaviours of concern.

Welcome

Meaning “house on steep hill”, Tigh Fruin sits within approximately three acres of landscaped land, which includes a sensory garden with a trampoline for our young adults to utilise. Hayton, which is three and a half miles from the market town of Retford, is a small village with a play park opposite the home, and has a village hall that has various groups running for people to get involved in the community.

Our approach

Kisimul Group are dedicated to providing a happy and settled home environment for our young people in a comfortable atmosphere that promotes dignity and respect, independence, privacy, fulfilment and choice. We are thoroughly committed to supporting them to progress and integrate within the wider community.

In-house therapeutic services ranging from speech and language therapy to aromatherapy are also provided by Kisimul.

Independence

We promote and encourage our individuals to be as independent as possible giving them a sense of ownership and belonging within a homely, safe environment.

All the people we support within the home take part in a weekly meeting to discuss any activities they may like to partake in during the following week. They also meal plan for the following week – individuals are encouraged to plan a healthy and nutritional menu which caters for all dietary requirements.

Daily life

All of the people we support have bespoke, person-centred activity plans tailored to their needs and wants. These include activities such as horse-riding, swimming, sensory interaction and animal husbandry. Keyworkers also plan extra activities on residents’ requests or likes.

Community presence is very important to us here at Tigh Fruin and we utilise all amenities available to us as part of everyday life and the running of the home, which ensures our individuals are an integral part of the local community and all it has to offer.  Our young people regularly use the local shop and have helped deliver leaflets to the local community on behalf of the local shop to support this. Some of the young people within the home attend a local Slimming World group which not only supports them with a healthy lifestyle but also encourages community integration.

Accommodation

Tigh Fruin has several communal spaces including two large lounge areas and a sensory room which provides individuals with additional space whilst meeting their sensory needs. Tigh Fruin has a well-equipped kitchen and dining room. The dining room also provides extra communal space for people to utilise. The home is spread across three floors with four bedrooms on the first floor and two further bedrooms on the second floor – all of the bedrooms within the home have en suite facilities.

Staff & Therapeutic Services

The staff team are all trained to the people we supports’ specific needs and show their passion through their support in the individuals and this is evident upon walking in the home. All the staff within the home attend a two-week induction course prior to starting work within the home, where they will cover all the mandatory training required.

The people we support at Tigh Fruin have access to a variety of different Therapeutic Services such as aromatherapy, speech and language therapy, music therapy and occupational therapy. See more information on our Therapeutic Services here.
