Kisimul's Meas training programme has been recertified for three more years.

Meas successfully recertified for a further three years

BILD recently carried out their three yearly review of our Meas programme, and we are pleased to announce that we have been successfully recertified for a further three years.

Meas (which is a Scots Gaelic word meaning ‘respect’) is our behaviour support training programme for all colleagues working in residential or education support roles. It is externally certified by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD Act) according to the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) training standards.

Version 2 of Meas was launched in 2025, including a new manual, presentations and resources, with a focus on trauma informed practice and feedback from colleagues on the new version has been outstanding.

The RRN Standards are internationally recognised and endorsed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), focusing on reducing unnecessary restrictive practices and improving the quality of support across health, social care, and education.

The BILD process paid particular attention to specific developments that have taken place since the last recertification in 2023:

  • Introduction and implementation of a Reducing Restrictive Practices strategy, resulting in a considerable reduction in restrictive physical interventions.
  • Reduction of non-physical restrictions such as environmental and blanket restrictions, with an emphasis on improving quality of life outcomes.
  • Introduction of and embedding a digital system for collecting, analysing and learning from incident data.
  • The integration of trauma informed approaches into our training and practice models.
  • The development of the Service Development Practitioner role as a means of combining training delivery with practice leadership, including the embedding of the colleague competency programme.

We have also been selected as one of only eight organisations nationwide to take part in a six month trial for the new RRN Standards Version 2, which are due to be rolled out in 2027.

Angela Wood, Head of Therapeutic Lived Experience said, “It is a great achievement to be awarded certification for the third time and this demonstrates our commitment to reducing restrictive practice and promoting safe and ethical approaches in all that we do.

“We have come a long way over the last three years in terms of integrating trauma informed approaches, and it is wonderful to see this celebrated as part of this review. Furthermore, our continued passion to enable meaningful lives and support future developments to best practice is demonstrated through our participation in the trial of the new RRN Standards Version 2.

We are looking forward to contributing to this trial. Thank you to all our colleagues who have supported these great outcomes.”
