Learn more about Calman Colaiste College
Our Calman Colaiste provision is a specialist post-16 college for autistic learners who may have additional complex learning needs.
The displays in the college showcase the impact of the curriculum on outcomes for learning.
As you will see from the photos, below, there is a heavy emphasis on preparation for adulthood outcomes.
Personal development and wellbeing has focused on personal and oral hygiene, and dealing with illness and injury. Learners have been offering each other first aid and how to express how they are feeling when unwell.
In functional skills, learners have created their own fictional books, creating original characters using AI and multimedia.
Emphasis on SMSC and ESG in the college include farm-to-fork and legacy projects (tree planting), and religious festivals such as Easter and Holi festivals.
Developing learner independence through catering and independent living skills encourages learners to track their own progress and access weekly scaffolded meal planner activities.
Learners embrace their enterprise project work through creative experiences, raising money for charity by selling cards, poppies, tie-dye clothes, as well as graffiti art and making tangible improvements to the external college environment.
The college has also upgraded the horticulture area, where learners have planted a range of herbs, flowers and fruit, as well as benefiting from the vegetables that are grown to be used in catering projects.
Newcomers to the college include arrivals in the animal husbandry yard, with lambs, baby guinea pigs and rabbits, as well as a rescue pig, rare breed Silkie hens, and turkeys, adding to the college community and providing real life vocational and meaningful learning opportunities.
