An Caladh House

AN CALADH HOUSE is situated in the tranquil village of Washingborough, 2.5 miles from the Cathedral City of Lincoln. The house is a beautiful, spacious home that provides a safe haven (An Caladh) & excellent residential care for 10 adults with severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. For those that live here, An Caladh is their home and they are encouraged to personalise and take ownership, the atmosphere reflects this and promotes a happy, healthy and enthusiastic ambiance.

At An Caladh House each individual resident is encouraged to be as independent as possible in line with plans of care which are designed and agreed to be person centred. All residents are respected and have the right to make their own choices and decisions no matter how big or small, significant or insignificant they may seem. It is their life and ultimately they are encouraged to express that right and support is offered by a dedicated, fully trained, full time staff team. We are dedicated to providing the most homely environment as possible to ensure that the residents we support feel happy, safe and fulfilled.

Our residents are encouraged to partake in an activity that stimulate that particular individual and meets/develops their needs and desires. Our resident’s independence and self-worth powers our desire to ensure they are as self-managing as possible and this is mirrored in the approach to running of the home, staff assist the residents in this area with tasks such as grocery shopping, cooking, up keep of the home and planning activities. However, this list is by no means exhaustive. We also operate our own allotment site which serves very well as a work experience/learning tool but also further enables the residents to be a part of the local community.

An Caladh has 10 individual bedrooms all with en-suite facilities and the option of both bath and shower. All the rooms are personalised to each individual’s desires and tastes. Their home also has two large communal lounges where they can spend time interacting with others, accessing entertainment facilities and the many in house activities or just relaxing in their comfortable environment. There is large dining area for those who wish to eat with others but for those who wish to dine on their own, ample space is provided to reflect this.

Community presence is paramount to enable self-worth and this also helps to build confidence when out and about. Within the village of Washingborough there are many amenities, including a small supermarket, pub, restaurant, library, health centre and numerous clubs and societies on offer. The village benefits from its own bowling alley and golfing centre and endless footpaths and tracks alongside the River Witham for which to take a ramble.

Experience has taught us that supporting each person as an individual, communicating with them in their preferred way and supporting them in accessing stimulating, worthwhile activities whilst respecting their right to be treated as we expect to be, has enabled each resident to develop and flourish within An Caladh House.

An Caladh means “Safe Harbour”.
